FCA calls on AI providers to add disclaimers to financial advice from LLMs and agents
In a speech at a Bloomberg event, Jessica Rusu, the UK Financial Conduct Authority's chief data, information and intelligence officer, called on AI providers to add clear, proportionate and consistent disclaimers to financial information and advice produced by general-purpose LLMs and agentic AI. She said four in five less-experienced investors aged 18 to 40 have used AI to help with investing, but only 40% of consumers know there is no recourse if something goes wrong after acting on advice from a general-purpose AI tool. Saturn, an AI provider for financial advisers, said disclaimers alone are not enough.
Regulators are starting to draw a line between regulated advice and chatbot output, which matters for any wealth firm plugging its services into AI platforms.
