Small private credit managers use AI for screening, underwriting and monitoring to scale lean
An Alternative Credit Investor feature says smaller private credit managers are leaning on generative and agentic AI to grow assets without adding staff, citing Carne Group research that 96% of private credit managers now use AI. Veld Capital, a 30-person asset-backed credit manager with EUR 2.7bn under management, uses it for deal screening, initial underwriting and portfolio monitoring and is building its own AI-native tools. Oxane Partners says some institutions are even experimenting with an AI agent on the investment committee.
It is a concrete look at where private credit teams actually use AI today (screening, first-pass underwriting, monitoring) and how lean managers use it to compete with bigger shops.
