Goldman Sachs LP survey: AI ranks as the biggest force reshaping alternatives over five years
Goldman Sachs Alternatives' 2026 Global Alternatives Survey of 225 LPs and institutional investors, run June to August 2026, found AI is the most cited driver of change in alternatives over the next five years at 34%, well ahead of industry consolidation and economic disruption at 13% each. AI is also starting to register as a risk, with 28% of LPs placing technology-driven workforce displacement in their top five. The firm says LPs are shifting from seeking AI exposure to backing managers who can use AI to improve investment decisions and portfolio value creation.
LPs are signalling that a manager's ability to use AI will increasingly factor into manager selection, not just AI-themed exposure.
