CFTC chair Mike Selig asks who is liable when an AI trading agent goes rogue, and floats know-your-agent rules
At a CFTC forum on AI, Chairman Mike Selig said AI agents continue a long move toward autonomous trading systems. He asked whether developers of agents that trade for users must register, who is liable if an agent goes rogue, and whether regulators need a know-your-agent check, pointing to crypto as a model. Architect CEO Brett Harrison said more retail and institutional traders now use AI-built algorithms to trade derivatives.
Anyone running trading agents in derivatives or crypto should watch for registration and liability rules aimed at agent developers and operators.
