Goldman Sachs restricts Claude Code and GitHub AI coding tools to engineers after risk review
Goldman Sachs has restricted Anthropic's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub AI coding tools largely to engineers after an internal review of productivity and risk, according to Bloomberg Law citing October internal guidance. The bank had previously let bankers and traders use the tools for work such as monitoring client flows, modeling markets and positions, and producing text and graphics. The change reverses a broader 'vibe coding' push and has frustrated some traders; secondary coverage notes quantitative specialists and engineers remain the intended users. PYMNTS and Finextra reported the same restriction on Nov 2-3, contrasting Goldman's pullback with BNY's governed Eliza platform and Deutsche Bank's developer-only coding assistants.
A major bank is drawing a hard line on who can run AI coding agents near trading and banking workflows, a live risk-governance question for hedge funds and prop desks copying the same stack.
