DE Shaw AUM hits $125bn as the quant expands AI research systems and adds a technology surcharge
Hedgeweek reported on November 3, 2026, citing Bloomberg, that DE Shaw grew assets under management to a record $125 billion from $98 billion at the start of 2026. The firm is deploying AI-powered research systems to process corporate information and alternative datasets and identify shorter-term trading opportunities. For 2026 it introduced a 0.12% technology surcharge for Composite investors on top of its 3% management fee and 35% performance fee, reflecting rising AI infrastructure and research costs, and raised about $6 billion for Cogence, its first discretionary fund led by human portfolio managers.
A top quant is treating AI research compute as a billable cost of the strategy, not a free shared overhead.
